THE FARM

The Naked Dairy is a small family farm nestled in the hills of Waitetuna Valley, approximately halfway between Hamilton and Raglan.

The farm consists of 160 Hectares that is made up of river flats through to steeper hill country. Two areas of mature native bush and one of our larger wetlands are protected by covenant. The Waitetuna Stream and many tributaries run through the farm. These waterways, as well as the many wetlands on the property, have been fenced to exclude stock, and have been planted with native species.

Trees and hedgerows have been planted in all paddocks, providing important shade and shelter for the stock.
As a result of these initiatives, there has been an improvement in not only water quality but also biodiversity.

With our pasture-based system, we use organic principles following the philosophy of: healthy soil; healthy pasture; healthy stock; healthy product.
We enhance our soils using the manure from the farm as well as natural products such as compost, lime and trace minerals.
Our mixed species pasture has a high clover content to naturally fix nitrogen from the air. The cows enjoy the variety of grasses and herbs available within the pasture and this helps to maintain optimum stock health.

Farming with a low stocking rate treads lightly on the environment while maximising animal health and welfare.
The farm is home to 110 dairy cows, 150 breeding ewes, 30 beef cattle and a small number of pigs.
